1 pair, screws included. These 30mm quadrant hinges with stay are chrome plated, sized for jewellery boxes and larger lidded boxes.

The stay is the point. A quadrant hinge carries a curved arm that swings into a pocket as the box opens and holds the lid just past ninety degrees — no separate lid support, no chain, no slamming shut while your hands are in the box. Close the lid and the arm disappears back into its slot. It is the tidiest way to hang a box lid, and once you have fitted a pair you will not go back to butt hinges for your best work.

Fitting 30mm quadrant hinges

Quadrant hinges are let into the back corners of the box, half into the carcase and half into the lid, with a deeper pocket routed for the stay arm. Mark out with the lid clamped in its closed position, rout or chisel the L-shaped recess to a snug fit, then cut the stay pocket deep enough that the arm bottoms out before the lid does. Test the setout on scrap first — quadrant hinges are less forgiving than butt hinges, and the crisp, gap-free result is the whole reward. The included screws suit the countersunk holes; drill pilot holes in dense timber so the small screws do not shear.
