Why Pomatia
Pomatia is a widely-grown Pacific hardwood from PNG, Fiji, and the Indo-Pacific basin. In the Australian specialty market it travels under its botanical trade name; in the Pacific it’s Taun, and in some markets Island Mahogany. The character is consistent regardless of the name: warm reddish-brown heartwood, reliable working behaviour under hand and machine tools, and the quiet density of a hardwood that has been holding floors and cabinet joinery in humid tropical climates for centuries. Australian-imported Pomatia at dressed-board widths is uncommon, most island stock is consumed locally or sold as flooring offcuts. We hold cabinetmaker-grade pieces for the builders who specifically want Pacific hardwood character.
