Bird’s Eye Rock Maple – Sawn – 25×150mm

What Makes It Special

Bird’s Eye Rock Maple is a unique and rare variation of Rock Maple. The “bird’s eye” figure comes from small swirling knots in the grain that look like tiny eyes. This pattern appears naturally during the tree’s growth and gives each piece a distinctive character. Because the figure varies greatly, use photos as a guide only.

Known as Hard Maple in the US and Canada. It’s the same timber American woodworkers use — sold here under its Australian name, Rock Maple.

Colour and Appearance

Rock Maple is naturally light in colour with a fine, tight grain. The pale white tone contrasts beautifully with darker timbers, making it a favourite choice for feature work. Even on its own, the delicate grain and shimmering figure create a striking look.

Origin and Workability

Sourced from Canada and North America, this hardwood is strong yet easy to work with. It suits joinery, cabinetry, woodturning, and fine furniture making. Despite its density, it cuts, sands, and shapes well. Plus, it releases a sweet “maple syrup” aroma when worked — a detail many woodworkers love.
