Robert Sorby Spindle Roughing Gouge 1-1/4in Unhandled
This roughing gouge blade is scaled up to 1-1/4in for larger spindle stock, the same reliable pattern as our smaller size but with the extra width to clear bigger square-section blanks. It’s blade only, and this is the last of our stock in this size.
Why Robert Sorby
Robert Sorby has forged turning tools in Sheffield since 1828, and this roughing gouge blade carries that same solid HSS construction, ground with a wide sweep built to clear stock quickly without chatter. Robert Sorby makes the pattern in a handful of sizes and this was the larger of the two we stocked.
Specs

At the Lathe
The wider profile on this roughing gouge blade makes short work of larger square stock, taking corners off table legs and thicker spindle blanks before you move to a detail gouge or skew. Like its smaller sibling, it’s for spindle work only and it’s one of the turning tools we recommend for bigger projects that come up in our woodturning courses.
Limited Stock — While It Lasts
This is the last of our Robert Sorby roughing gouge blade stock in this size, and once it’s sold the listing closes for good. No restock is coming, so this is it while stocks last.
