Product Details
Queensland Silky Oak (Grevillea robusta), sawn and ready to dress. The silver ray flecks that define the species are visible on the worked face, broad medullary rays, lustrous, the feature that puts Silky Oak in mixed-species joinery and accent work across a century of Australian cabinetmaking.
Available in three widths at the same length across all three. Narrower boards carry the rays at accent and inlay scale. Wider boards open up for feature rails, cabinet door inserts, and panel work where the silver figure becomes the centrepiece.
Why Queensland Silky Oak
Most of the Silky Oak that has moved through Australian timber merchants over the past century has been NSW Silky Oak (Cardwellia sublimis). Queensland Silky Oak is a different tree, Grevillea robusta, the same species sold as Silky Oak in international markets and planted widely as a street tree across Australia. The ray figure is its feature: broad, silver, and distinctly different from the subtler rays in European oak. For accent rails, inlay strips, and jewellery-box components where you want the timber to do visual work, this species earns its place. We hold these boards as the Queensland lot they are, not folded into the NSW stock.
