The WL3040A weighs 238kg. This kit is how one person moves it.
Four retractable swivel castors bolt to the legs of the lathe using the mounting hardware supplied. Step the levers down and the machine lifts clear of the floor and rolls. Step them up and the lathe settles back onto its cast feet, sitting dead still on the ground the way a heavy lathe needs to.
That last part is the whole point. A machine of this weight left permanently on castors will walk under load and it will chatter, and you will feel it in the finish coming off the tool. Because these retract fully, you get the mobility of a wheeled base without giving up the sure footing and low vibration you paid for in the first place.
Worth having if your workshop is tight. If the lathe has to move so the ute can get in, or so you can get behind the headstock for a big outboard bowl, this turns a two-person shuffle into a one-person job you will actually bother doing.
What is in the kit
Four retractable swivel castor assemblies with tread-plate foot levers, plus the bolts and brackets needed to mount them. Nothing else is required. Fitting is a bolt-on job with the lathe jacked or blocked up one corner at a time, and it is the factory kit, so the holes line up.
Fits the WL3040 series only. This is the factory mobility kit for the WOODFAST WL3040A Super Heavy Duty Wood Lathe. It will not fit the WL520A or the WL1220A midi lathe. Manufacturer part number 8001552. Full specifications are on the Woodfast Machinery product page.
