Red Sandana Dressed Timber
Red sandana is old stock, and this is the last of it. Once it sells, we won’t see it again. It is dressed all round and square, so it goes straight from the box to the lathe or the bench without a pass through the thicknesser.
Why Red Sandana Suits the Lathe
The colour is what catches your eye first: a deep, dark tone that carries right through the piece. The grain is tight and even, so fine detail holds its edge and beads and coves come off the tool crisp. It is easy to turn and gives you no grief. At a medium density it has enough weight to feel good in the hand and cuts comfortably all day.
Working Properties
- Density: Medium. Firm enough to hold detail, easy enough to cut all day.
- Grain: Tight and even. Clean cuts with sharp tools.
- Turning: Easy going on the lathe, with a smooth surface straight off the gouge.
- Finishing: Polishes up beautifully. We recommend Rustins Danish oil, EEE-Ultra Shine or Shellawax to bring up the depth of the colour.
Best Projects for Red Sandana

A Note on Our Wood Products
Please remember that the photos you see are indicative only. As a beautiful, natural material, wood inherently varies in grain, colour, and figure. While we meticulously select outstanding pieces to send your way, each item will possess its own unique charm. We believe these natural variations are part of what makes our wood products so special and truly one-of-a-kind.
