Product Details
Spanish Cedar 50mm x 130mm boards (Cedrela odorata, also called Cigar-box Cedar) are one of the more useful aromatic timbers available at sawn sections. Lightweight, dimensionally stable, and naturally fragrant, Spanish Cedar has been the standard for humidor interiors, fine drawer linings and guitar construction for generations.
Rough sawn and kiln-dried. Warm pinkish-brown colour across the run, with the mild natural fragrance Spanish Cedar is known for. Each board will vary a little in tone; that variation is normal for the species. Dress one face before marking out.
Why Spanish Cedar
The natural oils in Spanish Cedar do real work. They repel insects, help regulate humidity in enclosed spaces, and give the timber a mild, distinctive fragrance that stays with the finished piece. That is why Spanish Cedar has been the standard for cigar humidors since the trade was industrialised, and why it remains a go-to for drawer interiors, fine cabinetry linings and clothing storage where a natural repellent matters. The species takes a finish cleanly, responds well to both hand and machine tools, and holds a low-sheen polish that suits the warm tone of the grain without overpowering it.
Sizes available — Spanish Cedar 50mm x 130mm boards
- 50 x 130 x 600mm — $39.80
- 50 x 130 x 900mm — $60.50

The 50mm section at 130mm width carries the depth for humidor lids, cigar-box bodies, solid guitar neck blanks, larger cabinetry components, and small turning or carving stock. The 1200 and 1700mm lengths suit guitar necks and structural cedar runs without a glue joint.
Working Properties
- Weight: Light for a sawn hardwood. Comfortable to handle in the longer lengths.
- Hardness: Soft species. Keep edge tools sharp; the grain compresses rather than cuts when tools are dull.
- Grain: Straight to mildly interlocking. Low tearout risk on the face with sharp blades. End-grain responds well to a well-tuned block plane.
- Machining: Well-behaved at the table saw, router table and jointer. Sand to 180 before finishing. Fine aromatic dust; wear a mask.
- Finishing: A light application of Rustins Danish oil draws out the warm pinkish tones without masking the grain. Two coats, wiped back, is usually enough. The species takes a low-sheen wax polish equally well.
