Camphor Laurel is one of the more distinctive timbers on our racks — reclaimed from an introduced species now widespread across NSW and Queensland, and increasingly sought after precisely because it’s being milled from trees that are being removed rather than planted for timber. That gives it a genuine sustainability story most imported cabinet timbers can’t match.Colour and character: Camphor Laurel has striking, often wild grain patterns — swirling figure, colour variation from pale cream through to deep amber and brown, and occasional dark streaking. No two boards look the same, which is part of the appeal for anyone building a statement piece. It also carries the timber’s namesake camphor scent, noticeable when freshly cut or sanded.What it’s good forCamphor Laurel has become a favourite for slab furniture — dining tables, bench tops, live-edge pieces — where the grain and figure can be shown off rather than hidden.
