The ryoba is the most useful saw in any Japanese woodworker’s kit — one side rip, one side cross-cut, no need to swap saws mid-job. When this blade dulls, drop in a fresh one and keep going.

When to replace

Ryoba teeth do double duty (rip and cross-cut), so they wear faster than a single-purpose blade. If your ryoba is binding in rip cuts or fuzzing the cross-cut face, the blade is asking for replacement. A swap takes 60 seconds and restores the saw to its full speed and finish quality.
