Product Details
This is a one-off. Bark on, chalk-marked, and photographed as the exact log you’ll take home — not a species listing with generic dimensions.
Overview
Pink Gidgee is one of the dense Australian acacias we hold back for Reserve Selection rather than run through general stock. It’s a small-form species, so these rounds come to us as compact, characterful logs rather than long sawmill lengths — every one in this release was picked for turning, not milling.
Colour + Appearance
The heartwood runs from a warm pink-brown through to a deeper red-brown with age, often with fine darker figuring through the grain. Bark stays on for this listing, so you’re buying the rough, weathered outer face along with the colour underneath — the two side by side are a large part of why turners chase this timber. Study the photos before you buy; every piece reads a little differently and the listing photos are the true reference.
We have left these logs whole, so what you can see is the outside. For a reference on how Pink Gidgee reads once it is opened up and finished, The Wood Database has a sample photograph and species notes here: Pink Gidgee (Acacia crombiei).
Working Characteristics
Gidgee is notably dense and fine in the grain, and it takes a crisp, high finish once turned — it’s a favourite for small, detailed work for exactly that reason. These logs are dry and ready to use. We leave what’s there in the photos rather than dressing it up, so what you see is what you’re working with.
What You’re Buying
The dimensions listed against each log are the actual measurements taken on that log — diameter and length as they stand today. Given the nature of small-form logs like this, we measure and photograph each one individually rather than quote a generic size. The log chalk-marked with the letter you choose is the exact log you’ll receive.
Measured individually: Log A 120mm × 310mm · Log B 110mm × 310mm · Log C 150mm × 290mm · Log D 120mm × 240mm · Log E 120mm × 220mm.
Turning it soon? We keep Rustins Danish Oil and Shellawax Cream on the shelf for finishing work like this, and the rest of our turning blanks live here.
This is a one-off round — once it goes, the listing closes.
