White Beech Turning Blanks — 60mm x 60mm x 300mm
Our White Beech turning blanks at 60mm x 60mm x 300mm are cut from Australian Gmelina leichhardtii — a pale, creamy heartwood prized on the lathe for its fine even grain and natural oiliness. Every blank in this parcel is square-cut, lathe-ready and priced to move. This is a limited run at a sharp clearance price — once sold through it’s gone for good.
Why White Beech is a Classic Turning Timber
White Beech is one of the most forgiving native species in Australian workshops. The pale creamy heartwood carries a subtle green-grey cast, with fine straight grain and a gently oily fibre that has kept it in demand for boatbuilding, carving and turning for over a century. For species background see the Wikipedia entry for Gmelina leichhardtii. Beginners find it easy on the gouge; seasoned turners love how crisply it holds detail.
Working Properties on the Lathe
- Janka Hardness: ~3.3 kN — soft to medium, forgiving under the tool
- Grain: Fine, even, straight — minimal tear-out
- Turning: Long clean ribbons and sharp detail retention
- Finishing: Takes oil, wax and shellac beautifully — we recommend Danish oil, EEE-Ultra Shine or Shellawax for a soft satin finish
- Stability: Natural oiliness gives good moisture resistance

Limited Parcel — While Stocks Last
Clearance price on a finite parcel — once sold through, this listing closes. For more lathe stock see our full turning blanks range.
Kiln dried and ready to work
All of our timber is kiln dried to Australian standards, so it arrives stable and ready to be worked.
Because timber is a natural product, not all stock is ready to send immediately. Occasionally we need to mill your timber to the size you’ve specified before dispatch.
