Coachwood Turning Blanks — 50mm x 50mm x 500mm
Long-length NSW Coachwood turning blanks at 50mm x 50mm x 500mm, cut from Ceratopetalum apetalum. Every blank in this parcel is lathe-ready, and at 500mm long they’re versatile — turn full-length handles or chair legs, or cut a single piece down for multiple pens, knobs and small spindle projects. Limited run — once it’s gone it’s gone.
Why Coachwood is a Benchmark Native Timber
Coachwood is one of New South Wales’s signature native species — a pale creamy-yellow heartwood with a subtle pink cast that warms and deepens with age and light. The grain is fine and straight, the texture close and even, and it polishes to a soft satin lustre that has kept it in demand for cabinetry, furniture and fine turning for over a century. For technical data and species background see the WoodSolutions Coachwood profile or the Wikipedia entry for Ceratopetalum apetalum.
Working Properties on the Lathe
- Janka Hardness: ~5.5 kN — medium density, clean under tools
- Grain: Fine, straight, close-textured — minimal tear-out
- Turning: Excellent — holds sharp detail, finishes smooth off the gouge
- Finishing: Takes oils, wax, shellac and lacquer beautifully — finish with Danish oil, EEE-Ultra Shine or Shellawax for a soft satin sheen
- Machining: Works cleanly with hand and power tools, sands easily

Limited Parcel — While Stocks Last
Sharp clearance price on a finite parcel — once sold through, this listing closes. For more lathe stock see the full turning blanks range.
Kiln dried and ready to work
All of our timber is kiln dried to Australian standards, so it arrives stable and ready to be worked.
Because timber is a natural product, not all stock is ready to send immediately. Occasionally we need to mill your timber to the size you’ve specified before dispatch.
