Product Details

This rosewood turning blank is sold by the piece — and there are only ten of them, genuinely all there is. This parcel is the smallest kind of limited — once these ten blocks are gone, there’s nothing behind them. Available while stocks last.

What it is. New Guinea Rosewood is the Australian trade name for Pterocarpus indicus — sold internationally as Narra and a close cousin of Padauk. It’s a warm, richly coloured turning timber, noticeably gentler under the gouge than its Padauk cousin.

Working notes

  • Density: ~655 kg/m³ — medium-dense
  • Hardness: ~5.6 kN Janka — noticeably softer than Padauk, turns easily
  • Grain: warm-toned, straight to gently figured
  • Surface: Supplied rough-sawn — dress one face true before templating or glue-up.
  • Working: turns cleanly with sharp tools, moderate dust — good ventilation recommended
  • Finishing: a coat of Danish oil brings the colour up warm; buff with EEE-Ultra Shine for a finished sheen

The stack it came from. This png rosewood turning blank is old stock — it sat in the back of the shed for many years before we recovered it and got it ready to sell — there are ten pieces only, no more behind it.
